upgrading graphics card
i have currently got an 2011 imac 27 inch can i upgrade the graphics if so can it be full size or should i upgrade to 980m
If your iMac has a Radeon 6770 you can upgrade to a 6970. That's it, no other upgrades will work.

FWIW, Macs are not designed to upgrade graphics cards.

also you can't get some pci-express desktop video card it has to be the daughter board type usually a laptop gpu card used by the iMac's which likely inc cost along with 9670 not being new anymore so not being mass produced
iMac do not use "off-the-shelf" PCIe graphics cards. You can't get one from your local computer superstore. Here is what your card looks like:
